Used Cars Suddenly Aren’t So Cheap When They Have Gearbox Problems

March 5th, 2010

Buying a car is always an exciting experience, and whether it’s new or used, there are many different great value buys on the market today. However, when you buy used cars you have to question if this is going to increase your chance of having gearbox problems. Indeed, the used car costs less in the first place, but when you have gearbox problems to deal with, you’re inevitably going to find it costs a lot more.

New cars on the other hand are always going to stand a better chance of working efficiently without the need for too many repairs. It seems only logical to assume that brand new cars won’t have problems with them. Having said that, some people are a little wary of buying new cars that haven’t been “run in” yet, and that’s why many like to buy a car that has a couple of hundred miles on it to show that it has been used and is working fine. A new car could have problems, but the chances are minimised because everything is ‘new’. The higher the mileage then the more chance you have of experiencing gearbox problems and suchlike.

There’s a very basic premise here, in that things that get used more frequently could go wrong much sooner. Gearbox problems are quite common though and tend to occur often with vehicles aged over 5 years old. Look out for signs like sounds that might indicate the gearbox is faulty. Get it booked into a garage straight away so they can take a look. You might find the gearbox repair costs more the longer you leave it.

Bear in mind that gearbox problems can be very expensive to repair and so it is best to check the car over thoroughly before you buy it. A thorough test drive should help you to identify if everything sounds okay with the vehicle. If you have any reservations, speak with the car dealership you are thinking of purchasing from.

DIY Isn’t The Right Attitude Towards Car Gearbox Repairs

March 5th, 2010

When it comes to a car gearbox, many people think they can handle it going wrong. It’s just the gearbox, right? Wrong. If you’re a mechanic then by all means go ahead with it, but if not, avoid getting messy with something you don’t really understand. If you need any car gearbox repairs, there should only be one place that you’re headed to, and that’s the nearest garage.

Don’t get despondent if you like to DIY and cant sort your own car out, for there are other things you can experiment with. Try repairing the guttering or fixing the leaking tap. You might not be able to rectify the problem but at least they pose less of a danger than trying to do car gearbox repairs. Even the most knowledgeable of people won’t be able to sort a gearbox out unless they have been properly trained, so bear this in mind. Thankfully, the mechanics are the ones to talk to about any gearbox problems, which takes the pressure off you having to do it. As the gearbox is the main function of the car, not repairing it properly could seriously damage the motor and it would be highly dangerous. And if it’s the cost that’s worrying you, it is a small price to pay for getting your gearbox professionally repaired.

In fact, when it comes to anything car-related, one should never consider DIY as an option. Doing it yourself doesn’t guarantee success and if something goes wrong then you don’t want to be driving a dangerous car. Bear in mind that cars are not things to be played with and safety should always be paramount. There are enough hazards to avoid on the roads, without having to worry about your car being dangerous!

Car gearbox repairs can be short or long jobs, but no driver can estimate just how long it might take to fix, or indeed, how severe the problem is. If you were to DIY, you would probably spend all day trying to work out the problem and still never get to the bottom of it. People should enjoy their DIY jobs, not loathe them, and if you attempt car gearbox repairs you certainly won’t find it a pleasurable experience. Get in touch with the local mechanic and see what he can do for you.

Car Gearboxes Get Fixed For Christmas

January 29th, 2010

With Christmas just around the corner, it makes sense to check that your car is running properly and isn’t causing you any problems. Anything that goes wrong with your car over this festive period limits your travelling distances, so you want to make sure you can still get to the mother in law’s home for Christmas Day. The worst case scenario is that it is your car gearbox that needs changing, and that’s why it is advisable for all drivers to get their car gearboxes checked over.

Xmas On The Cheap

You could view it as an early Christmas present to yourself if you discover that everything is okay with the gearbox. If you’re not so fortunate and find you have to set some money aside for a gearbox replacement this Christmas, it can seem like a sad situation. A new gearbox in your car doesn’t have to be costly though, thanks to some repair centres doing great deals on motor parts this season. Some even have the option of fitting reconditioned gearboxes, which not only save you money, they also do just as good a job when it comes to functionality.

Anyone thinking about going on holiday for Xmas will want to know their car is working and driving fine before they set off, in order to minimise the risk of anything untoward happening such as the gearbox failing. There are actually many people that fall into this category, which isn’t what anyone wants at this festive time of year.

Its Not Just Old Cars…

Also remember that new cars often need gearbox problems and the like sorting out. Some only slightly used cars can develop faults early on and need specialist attention from a gearbox centre. The unlucky people in this world sometimes cringe when they find their newly-purchased car needs gearbox attention. This year, have a happy Christmas by making sure you don’t have to pay for any car gearbox repairs!

Car Gearbox Repairs Made Easy With Money-Saving Tips

December 17th, 2009

Like many people, saving money is of paramount importance, but you can easily get despondent when you find that your car is having problems and needs to go in for a repair. For those that have a luxury car, any faults can be very costly and you might regret buying the expensive car to start with. Another pricey group of cars are 4×4s and some people are having second thoughts before buying a big gas-guzzling vehicle when they read up on what parts may cost. In general, the more expensive the car, the more expensive the parts and repair labour. With this in mind, its all about finding the best way to save money on your vehicle costs. If your gearbox breaks, the best option is to have a reconditioned gearbox fitted.

Running As Good As New

So, for those still new to the idea of a reconditioned gearbox, this is basically something that has been reconditioned to look and operate as though as it was brand new, despite the fact it is technically ‘used’. For those on a budget, something like this can save considerable amounts of money. The best part is that you can’t tell the difference between a brand new one and a reconditioned one, at least not when the motor is running. It will run as good as new and give you the reassurance back that your car is safe to drive again. There is nothing worse than driving with trepidation because you fear the car may break down at any moment. Of course, if the car gearbox isn’t working then you’re unlikely to get very far with it.

A Reconditioned Gearbox – Saving Money Is Good

If you have a manual car then you will have to have a manual reconditioned gearbox fitted, and likewise if you have an automatic car then you will need an automatic gearbox. Usually, the automatic gearboxes will cost more, but this does vary from garage to garage. The good news is that you don’t have to save up for a couple of months in order to afford a reconditioned gearbox, because whether its manual or automatic, you will be saving money since you’re not buying a brand new one. Everyone likes to save money and you probably feel like you have spent enough on your car over the years, so the gearbox going is just something you really cant pay a lot for. However, car repairs are a fact of life and something every driver needs to be aware of. If you want to save money though, there’s no better way of doing it than with a reconditioned gearbox.

Leave It To The Mechanic To Repair Your Car Gearbox Problem

December 17th, 2009

Ever panicked about your car failing on you? It’s a common fear. Many people would panic if something went wrong internally, and if you know more about your car’s aesthetics rather than its inner workings, its likely that you’re going to need a bit of help when something develops a fault. And although men are usually the ones that know more about cars, it is sometimes the case that even they don’t know what do with an internal fault issue like a faulty gearbox. Car gearboxes are notoriously hard pieces of kit for people to get their head round, and just looking at one may surprise you when you learn that it is a main function of the car. There’s no way that you can believe a part like that controls so much. Naturally, if you notice your car’s gearbox isn’t functioning properly, the best thing to do is to check it in at a repair centre immediately.

Nursing Your Car Better

With car faults, the garage will need a certain amount of time to check things over, in which case you may be asked to leave your car overnight. Some people regard it as a hospital admission for their beloved friend. Whereas some won’t bat an eyelid about leaving their car at the garage for open heart surgery, others will get quite distressed about the whole thing.   Trust in the mechanic to make sure your car, and its gearbox, gets nursed back to good health. In most cases, the mechanic will recommend 1 of 3 options for resolving the car gearbox problem, which will either be having a new gearbox fitted, having a reconditioned one put in place or if the fault isn’t bad, the existing gearbox may be able to be replaced. Often, the choice will be up to you about whether you opt for a reconditioned gearbox or a new one putting in place, and it may be a cost-based decision. In the world of car gearbox repairs, cost is always an important factor and a reconditioned gearbox is the cheaper option for all parties concerned.

Safe Driving

So, when you decide what you want the mechanic to do, he will set to work putting some life back into your car. Without the gearbox the car is worthless. Unless you have a really old car that you can just scrap, a gearbox repair is the only thing you can consider in order to get your car working again. Therefore, hand it in to the mechanic and he will work his magic to make it work and look brand new.

Do You Need a New Car?

November 20th, 2009

Although we are in the middle of a financial recession people still want to own the latest new model cars. No matter how poor someone is they always want the best car.

Lets consider just a few of the reasong why people love to own new cars and why they are often willing to put themselves in considerable debt to drive the latest models.

Peer Pressure
This is definately one of the key reasons why people are buying new cars. What is worse than going out in an old banger and then watching your closest friends driving fancy, flash top of the range cars. People do not want other people to see that they are struggling, so they go out and buy a new automobile even though they cannot afford it, just to show people they have made it in there lives.

Being Proud
A lot of people want to buy a new vehicle to show off, they love all the attention they get from having people look at them when they stop next to traffic lights or pull up in a crowded area.

Speed
Some people adore cars that go fast and they know that by buying a new car will ultimately fulfill there thirst for driving at high speeds. New vehicles tend to be capable of much higher speeds. Even diesel cars are quite nippy these days.

Relaxation
A lot of people just buy a new vehicle simply for the relaxation factor. This is especially true if people are travelling a long way on a regular basis. They want to relax and have all of the latest technologies that are open.

Collectors
There are still people around who are lucky enough to be very well off. Some of these lucky people are in the habit of buying new cars just to collect them. Their newly acquired cars can often end up unused, sitting on the front drive waiting to be sold off in a few months time. To many wealthy motor enthusiasts this doesn’t really matter as they will have the financial reserves needed to fee their car buying habit.

There is nothing wrong with purchasing a new car; alot of people look at new vehicles. But make sure that you have the correct finances in place to actually pay for the vehicle as if not you will probably end up getting yourself into a lot of debt and the debt company may well take back the car from you, leaving you with nothing.

I recommend car leasing as a sensible way to finance the acquisition of all new vehicles. I have my 5 series BMW on a very affordable BMW lease deal and all of my companies commercial vehicles are on very cheap van lease contracts.

Fewer Second Hand Cars Leads to Increase in Value

October 20th, 2009

A growing shortage of used cars has resulted in an increase in their value this year. Vehicle valuation data provider CAP Motor Research Ltd., responsible for providing vehicle valuation data to the motor industry, has revealed that the normal 15% per year depreciation in used car prices has been reversed.

What normally happens in the used car market is a steady depreciation. But this year there has been a complete reversal with used car prices actually increasing month on month by about 3.5%. This is resulting in significant increases in used car valuations.

This trend is bad news for used car dealers and those looking to buy a cheap motor, but its great if you are selling your old car. The price rises for used cars in 2009 have been completely unprecedented. There’s been around 25 to 30% increase in prices for some used cars.

Some are saying that the effects of the car scrappage scheme will be short-lived. When  the UK car scrappage scheme runs out of funding in October it is anticipated that we will see a reversal in this trend.

The car scrappage scheme was introduced to boost the ailing motor industry by incentivising the purchase of new cars. For some car manufacturers the scrappage scheme has been a big success. Government incentives have encouraged those considering a replacement car to choose a new model.

Back in April it was reported that, for the first time, some new cars were actually cheaper than used ones in the UK. Fewer used cars coming onto the market combined with a decrease in demand for new cars is cited as the cause.

There has also been a shift in the way that UK drivers are financing their transport needs with many opting for cheap car leasing deals or attractive van leasing deals rather than outright purchase.

Get More For Your Used Car In The Recession

October 4th, 2009

Within the past year, all we have heard is how the motoring industry is being his so hard by the recession. Atleast once every week the same story is reported, how the motoring industry is collapsing because the public aren’t choosing to buy a new Mercedes. However, despite rarely hearing about them, there are a few sectors of the motoring industry that have not been affected by the recession.

The part of the motoring industry that is doing the best is the used car market. Prices of used cars have been going against most things in the recession, they have actually been going up. This may not sound too great at first because you will have to pay more for used cars for sale, however, if you are going to trade in your old car towards a different one, you will find you will be offered far more for your car than ever before.

The main reason why the second hand car market is becoming so busy is that many people are trying to save their cash, while still having a car. One effective way of doing this is to buy a second hand car rather than a new one. One particular thing that has happened recently and has definately not had a positive effect on the new car market is that prices have actually risen. You’d think that would be the last thing car manufacturers would want to do, however, because the current exchange rates are so poor, manufacturers are forced to raise prices.

As a result of more people opting for used cars, the demand for these second hand cars has seen a dramatic rise. As the demand for used cars rise, plus as more cars are being scrapped under the scrappage scheme, it’s getting difficult to find your ideal second hand car. Now because used car dealers are running out of cars to sell, they are offering more for trading in a car, making it sound like a better deal for car owners looking to sell.

The only downside is that despite they are getting more for their old cars, they are having to pay more when it comes to buying a diffrent second hand car. So because the price rises are on both sides, selling and buying, you are not actually getting any extra cash for your car because you lose it when you buy a new one, but the majority of the public would still prefer to buy a second hand motor rather than a buy a Honda straight off the production line.

The only people that lose out are the people that don’t trade in an old car.

Save Cash By Conserving The Use Of Petrol

September 6th, 2009

In recent years drivers have been outraged at how much they have been forced to pay at the pumps to fill up. In 2008 it was definitely a bad year to be driving a car in the UK with the cost of unleaded petrol breaking not only the £1 mark but the £1.20 mark in some places. Diesel prices soared to record levels also.

What quickly became a common talking point among drivers was how they could use less fuel and save more money on their motoring costs. People quite often use cars to commute to work and so there is often no other option for getting to work than driving.

Shop Around

Just like you would with any other purchase, shop around at many different brands and locations. Supermarkets have been known to provide cheaper fuel as well as offers on petrol if you spend a certain amount in store. It has been suggested that the quality of the fuel is lower than average at supermarkets but this claim is pretty much unfounded as many refilling trucks visit big brands as well as supermarkets so there’s probably little difference between them.

Avoid going over 60mph

It’s well known that your car will burn through a lot more fuel once you reach high speeds. The estimated sweet spot is 60mph and unless you’re on the motorway you’re legally obligated not to go over 60mph anyway. Tying to keep below this speed is widely reported to save you some petrol or diesel compared to driving at much higher speeds.

Don’t make the engine work more than it needs to

Accelerating harshly, wheel spinning and braking suddenly can all be wasteful activities with regards to car fuel. Accelerating gradually from a stand still and braking early and smoothly will reduce the workload for the engine and stop burning through your fuel in such a short time. Using the handbrake when on a steep incline as opposed to giving the car enough throttle to hold it in place is another vital fuel saving tip.

Use your car less or at least take the shortest route

Obviously if you don’t drive as much then you won’t have to worry about using all your fuel. For some people taking public transport to work may be an option, also making sure that when you need to drive somewhere that you combine a number of errands into one trip, such as if you need to get a few bits of food from the shops make sure you also pick up any other items that you will need in the near future to save another trip.

Planning your route is important too, this could be finding a shortcut or choosing a route that is less travelled, even worse than taking a longer route is a route that will leave you stuck in traffic jams making you late but also wasting fuel.

These are just a few tips to help you start being more energy conscious, which means you’ll be not only saving money but also causing less environmental damage from driving. Experiment with different tips and you may be able to cut back on your motoring costs.
