General Motor’s Pontiac division is very much responsible for the Pontiac Solstice.  What is the Pontiac Solstice?  It is a racer and this will be running on the streets, roads, and roads starting the summer of this year, 2006.

The Pontiac Solstice was introduced to the public eye in the 2004 north american global Auto Show.  The production though for this auto had started during the middle of the year 2005.  Compared to the concept car of the Pontiac Solstice during the asserted car show, the Pontiac Solstice still holds the same exterior styling.  Makers claim that this automobile could possible be yours for US$19,995.

Mounted on the GM Kappa platform, the Pontiac Solstice has been anticipated to boost the promoting and sales of the Saturn Sky and the Opel GT.  This automobile has been made as a convertible though there were rumours that Pontiac would shortly be manufacturing a fixed roof coupe version.  By doing such, the Pontiac Solstice would then be extremely much capable of doing sports vehicle racing since this event is not open to convertibles.  Pontiac has additionally given interested parties the opportunity to choose as to what they might like the vehicle to have with regards to seat material and exterior color.  As laid out in the seats, the choices are either leather or cloth and the color decisions are Steel, Sand, or Ebony.  As per the exterior colours, one could choose from Sly, aggressive, mysterious, Pure, Envious, Cool, and Deep.  Crafty is a shade of gray, assertive is a shade of bright red.  Confusing is black.  Pure is white.  Envious is a dark green.  Cool is a mix of off white and awfully light grey.  While Deep is a shade of dark blue.

The power of the Pontiac Solstice comes from a Power Ecotec 2.4 L DOHC engine.  This is helped by an Aisin five speed manual close ratio engine.  The auto also offers a discretionary five speed automated engine.  The conjectured fuel usage of this convertible is some 20 MPG if it applies to town driving and 28 miles per gallon if it is for road driving.

Replaced with a 1973 vette

November 1st, 2009

Those of us fortunate enough to be around in the 70s when this fantastic car came out drool each time we consider it.  Imagine getting an automobile from the factory with a 455 cubic inch engine in it!This car kicked butt!  Then if you did some work, like we did to ours, as in having the engine blue outlined, balanced and a ton more, it probably did even better.  Let’s just say it was doing far better then one hp per cubic inch!

This was the era of Smokey and the Bandit movies.  Good ole boy Burt Reynolds drove a black Trans Am in the flick and everyone and his uncle all of a sudden wanted one.  Of course, by that time the ones they were selling were watered down versions with no where close to the power of the original ones.

Since we aren’t sure of the statute of constraints, let’s just say that any stories are thought to start’Once on A Time’.

One of our favourite stories is when we were getting onto dawn highway late one evening and a Camaro rolled up next to us and started revving his engine, well you can imagine the rest. Here was a poor soul who had not a clue of what was in store.  Since we do not believe in street racing, it absolutely was a good thing we were both going onto the entrance ramp.  Once we were satisfied that no one was on the parkway at that time of night, we let the Beast Out To Play.  We never did see any more then his fading headlights.

One of the funniest moments was when we lived in upstate NY and my hubby went to the store to choose something up and this fellow in a Mustang 2 pulled up next to him and my hubby had fun ( hey, we are all entitled sometimes ).  As Chuck tells it : You see at that point a local car dealer was running a television spot featuring a Mustang two just destroying a Trans Am.  So this gentleman pulls up next to me, gunning his engine for all he is’s worth.  The light changes, he chirps his tires and flashes me a big smile as he’s taking off.  Well, I idle away from the light, give it just enough gas in first to tug even with him, then drop the hammer, lighting up both tires, throw second, light them up again and then ease off.  Drive down the line to the store.

When I come out of the store this guy has finally got there and is waiting for me and says,’but the commercial asserts Mustangs will beat the pants off the Trans Am.’ I extraordinarily blithely replied,’Not this Trans Am!’

They don’t make them like this anymore.  It’s sad when you think about it!  Those of us who lived and got raised in the time of the muscle autos, street rods, Sat. night cruise nights were very, very fortunate.  I feel sorry for the youth of today that they missed out on all of this.

So what has happened to that great 455 Trans Am, sadly the cruel upstate NY winters are not kind to automobiles and rust took the Trans Am from us.  However, we probably did replace it – with a customised 1973 Vette, which we drove cross country to California, but that’s a entire nother story!

The ‘66 GTO has incredible features

November 1st, 2009

What’s the most popular muscle car ever that goes zero to sixty in 6.5 seconds flat?

The answer is, the 1966 Pontiac GTO which is a choice muscle auto.  In fact, when it was released, it quickly became the fastest selling muscle auto in history.  With the ‘66 GTO, Pontiac truly created a new masterwork that has stayed in high demand among muscle car enthusiasts for virtually four decades.

The ‘66 GTO has awesome features.  Most prominent are the unique headlights and the exceptional contours thru the body that are the true definition of the term swish.  Naturally, being a muscle vehicle, the ‘66 Pontiac GTO came in a selection of colours and styles when it was produced including the sports coupe model, the hardtop coupe and the convertible.

If you are shopping for a ‘66 Pontiac GTO muscle vehicle, it is maybe useful for you to understand the hardtop coupes are the most common, followed by the convertibles.  Comparably, there were a lot fewer sports coupe models made, so they are easily the rarest.

Pontiac’s GTO line gained recognition with the release of their 1964 model with its racy style, its powerful V8 engine, and its twin exhaust system.  Though it had fake hood scoops, it was surely a muscle auto with an attitude.  The ‘66 model had tons of the same features as the ‘64, but being the second body style for Pontiac’s GTO line, it redefined style with pizzazz.

The ‘66 GTO most typically has a four-barrel 389 engine, but there had been also a tri-power option.  After its release, Pontiac added an XS Ram Air package to the tri-power engine giving it a hotter cam and larger power – close to 380 hp – really perfect for a muscle car.  The XS Ram Air package upgrade included the cam and stiffer valve springs along with an accessory pack that enabled the ornamental hood scoop to be converted into a functional cold-air induction system.  There are only a few 1966 Pontiac GTOs that have the XS Ram Air setup, so they are definitely unique muscle vehicles for a muscle automobile collector.

In regard to muscle cars, there are several that are strongly desired by muscle car enthusiasts.  The 1966 Pontiac GTO just actually is a favorite for many .  Style, performance and originality are among the characteristics that make the 1966 Pontiac GTO one of the hottest muscle vehicles around.
